I personally do not think that there is any evidence to suggest that the smaller yorkies, 3-4lb especially, are any more prone to health issues than the the 5-7 lb ones. If there are issues, they usually occur when they are newborn and so it is good to let the breeder keep them as long as possible but at least to 12 weeks to make sure they are past that critical stage.
If you are talking about a micro-mini who won't get to 2 lbs, there may be some truth to that because they do not always develop completely and tend to have more open fontanels and have a tendency toward low blood sugar their whole lives.
I think you do need to do your research and learn how to detect any health problems in your yorkie and have the emergency things on hand in case you have a problem, but I would say this whether you are getting a 2 lber or a 7 lber.
I have three "tinies" in my family and I have done a lot of research and you do have to be careful with them but you have do the same with any yorkie because they are all "small" as far as dogs go.
