I noticed a few days later that there was an owl hooting outside and I began hearing stories of large birds taking small dogs. I read your posting and am pretty sure now that is what happened. I'm just sick about the whole thing... we all love Scruffy so much. But now an even bigger problem is my 10 year old daughter; she has cried every day since Christmas. I don't know what to do to help her. And I feel so guilty because Scruffy usually goes places with us or stays in the house or garage, but I left him outside that day since he has a dog house and a large back yard to exercise in. I did not think in a suburban residential area a dog would be in danger of wildlife. I wish I had read this before Christmas. Does anyone have advise on how to console my daughter with such a tremendous loss?
Sorry for your loss. I don't know what to say but all that came across my mind is dog house or not, you shouldn't leave small dogs outside when you are out.
