To tell you the truth - mine isn't painful - there is another condition I just heard about having to do with circulation - something like PAD ??? CAD ??? I can't remember - but there is pain associated with that -
RLS in my own experience is not painful but more annoying and VERY uncomfortable. It really really disrupts sleep...I know I haven't had a good nights sleep in years due to this ....and I do mean YEARS
My husband is really good about feeling bad for me when I'm up and down all night long....a really bad night will get comments like "You must be so tired - you were runnin from the cops again"
