As for riding in the car you could get yourself on of those doggy booster seats (I have one and they're great). Then Quincy can look out at the world and be safely secured at the same time!
There's loads of people with loads of really great advice on this site - and loadsa folks who have rescue dogs and can help with that aspect. I just had a wee thought on Quincy following your mum around and "using" you. Perhaps because she ignores him (you said she wouldn't pat him) he sees her as the "alpha dog" and so feels much safer when he's near her. You might like to read a copy of Jan Fennell's "Dog Listener" books - ignoring a dog's calls for attention is one of the ways she suggests that you can "dominate" your dog. |
