My granddaughter started showing signs (body odor and hair) when she was barely 8. My daughter took her to a pediatric endocrinologist and they did bone age tests on her, among other tests. They diagnosed her with percocious puberty and gave her medication to delay the onset of puberty since early puberty can decrease or stop bone growth, resulting in a shorter than normal adult (what I mean is shorter than she would be if not for early puberty). Anyway, she is now 10 1/2 and hasn't started yet - thank goodness. But I think it is not far away.
