Usually appliance fires start at the plug, and have NOTHING to do with whether or not the appliance is turned on. So, unless you are going to unplug everything in the house before you leave, I wouldn't worry about it. ( I polled several electrician's before agreeing to leave my slow cooker on throughout the day, this is what I was told, REPEATEDLY)
