I trained Pete by closing off the living room with a baby gate and keeping the wee wee pad in the living room until he wasnt making any mistakes, this way I could keep a close eye on him. Then I would put him on the pad when I thought it was about time and say "go potty", when he did go to the bathroom I would get really excited and love him lots and give him treats. At first he didnt quite get it but after a little while he started understanding that potty on the pad equiled treats, and thats when he started fake peeing (squating even when he didnt have to go) . Pete is now 2yrs old and has a wee wee pad in the bathroom (thank goodness its out of the living room ) since he is on the small side and tends to shiver uncontrollably if its cold out. He does have an accident occasionally but this is usually if the bathroom door was accidentally closed or if its time to clean his pad. Good luck and congrats on the new baby
