I have a Japanese Chin with chronic colitis. He also is very nervous. I took him as a favor to a breeder that wanted someone who had previous experience with this breed. He was returned to her and a gift to me. He arrived with Giardia treated with Panacur.
We went to many vets. I finally ended up in Philadelphia but live in NJ. about 3 hours round trip. Now we only go every 6 months for a wellness exam. He gets his innoculations at a local vet. He has him on sucralfate, metronizadole (both appropriate for his weight, 5.4-5.9lbs.) every 12 hours. He eats Kellogg's All Bran 13 carbs (on front of box) and diet lean buger, sautee in a teflon pan and drain off, rinse with bottled water. I feed him 3x's a day if your dog is small 4 small portions a day, 50-50 of the bran and beef add a little bottled water. It is a grainy stool but firm since the bran absorbs all. He now gets Wellness Simple Solutions Venizon and Brown Rice kibble as treats or rewards but this is just lately and only a couple at a time. This is after 2 yrs. on this diet. He hasn't had an attack since he was on it, only took 2 days to get rid of all the messy poop. The Philadelphia Police Dept. uses this food formula on their dogs in training that get diarhhea from stress.
I used bottled water because our water stinks, full of chemicals. Even the awful vets in my area advise to use bottled water in the tiny ones. You might not have poor quality tap water.
