Yeah, there are groups that are trying to get it passed here and it'll never happen. I'd bank my entire life savings on it.

You'll always be able to get around it, just like they do overseas. I've purchased dogs from the Ukraine; Jamaica and from Hungary all of which are breeds that standard prefers a docked tail, dew claw removal and potentially a cropped ear and while illegal in ALL of those countries, it still gets done. Many of the breeders have taken courses to learn to do just tail docking and dew claw removals and they do it at home. Which is not illegal.
The one thing I wouldn't do, is buy a puppy that had a ear cropping done from the home. Never. Even if the person was a veterinarian himself. It just seems like that kind of art should take place in a more sterile environment w/ proper equipment around if the anesthesia fails. Many times dew claws and tails are removed w/ no anesthesia and that's why I think the two are very different for me. Kinda like circumcisions.
