What to do? I took Piper in to get spayed. The vet did blood work, her enzymes were high. Not to high to where she still did the surgery. Scheduled me back in a month for more blood work. The vet sent me to a specialist for an ultra sound. The 1st specialist couldn't see a liver shunt, so he sent me to another specialist for another ultra sound. 2nd specialist couldn't see one either. 2nd specialist said since Piper isn't showing any signs of liver shunt, to recheck her blood work in 6 months. 1st specialist calls me to find out what the 2 DR had to say. I told him & he totally disagrees, he thinks I should go with further testing. Has anyone run into this before? Where it turned out not to be a shunt. If I go for further testing it's 6 hours away. Should I wait and see, or go for further testing? The second specialist said since she is healthy except for high enzymes, but he has seen higher. He would wait. He also said most dogs with shunts are smaller & have other signs of shunts. I'm so torn on what to do. The 1st specialist seemed to want to do all the testing possible to rule out a shunt. Along with possible biopsy. That's surgery with a dog that seems perfectly healthy. I would just hate to not do anything and have her start going down hill. Or do everything & find out nothing is wrong except her enzymes run high, to which some dogs do. Any advice I would greatly appreciate it. |
