I have one of each. I never realized maltese were in. I very rarely bump into anyone with a malt but see yorkies all the time. I believe yorkies have been in the top 10 AKC registered dogs for several years. Don't think the malts ever have. Maltese hair is very difficult to maintain. Yorkies are a breeze.
