This is a hard decision. I really don't know what they are doing for him there that you can't do at home, but I am unfamiliar with the treatment he is receiving. I agree with you though that he will be happier at home, if you have a cage to put him in and you can put him in a room by himself and maybe cover it to keep it darker so he is more calm.
