I use T*H*E STUFF for dogs. It is great for cotton coat's (I had a true cotton coat yorkie mix; his hair roots would pull out if you used a comb on what hair he had and it would make little bleeds. Once I started using THE STUFF on him I could comb him with ease) It makes the hair slick so that you can even comb out the snow balls. We live right on Lk Michigan and get lots of Lake Effect storms. That heavy, wet stuff. I would use it after his baths and give an extra spray if he was covered with snow. The groomer would give me a bottle whenever I was out.
