You need to check with US customs and the customs office of the country that you are traveling to because each country has different requirements for bringing pets into the country. Some countries want to quarantine them for 6 months (which defeats the purpose of the trip!) Also, when you call them, make sure to ask exactly which shots they need to have updated and in what timefram they need to be done (some require that you do them the week that you leave). Also, I would recommend buying an airline-approved pet carrier and getting them used to being in it now. Also, check with your airline about whether they can ride in the cabin with you, or whether they have to go with the cargo. There are great books in the travel section of B&N about the issue.
