Default Toe nail break, way short

I finally found this on Adonis last night. Him and Venus would play, and he'd yelp really loud and not walk on this foot for a few minutes, and lick it constantly.

I clipped the hair on his paw, and discovered this on inside nail on his back right paw, looked like its broken at the cuticle (for lack of better yorkie words). But its not broke all the way off.

We have an 11:30 appointment to have it removed. They say it'll hurt and bleed, but it needs to be removed the rest of the way off. I have to agree, cause seems when him and Venus play she gets it every time again.

I never have noticed any blood on it. But he licks it a lot. He did let me examine it last night. I didn't see blood, but when I wiggled it, he yelped. I could see its broken almost in 1/2. Still no blood.

I think this happend one day on the sofa, about a month or so ago. I used to keep an afgan on it, cause he liked to lay on it. His paw got stuck in the afgan and I helped him out of it. I didn't know he'd wiggled enought to break that nail. I never noticed him licking it that much when this happend. Its just been this last week, he's been doing all the licking, and yelping loud when Venus grabbs it playing.

Something I really need to learn to do is clip his nails. He's never had them done. Honest to God, till I got on this forum in August, I had no idea dogs needed their nails clipped. Had I been clipping them, I'm sure I'd noticed this right after it happend.

Wish us luck, and pray for us, as we go to the vet to have this done in 2 hours. I'm so scared for him. Its going to break my heart to see him bleed, but I know this needs to be done now. If it were down by the bottom part of the nail, instead of the top, I'd do it myself. But its way too far up there for me to attempt. They said he might also need some antibiodics.

This is the first thing thats ever happened to him in the 5 years I've had him. It will be our first "emergency" with him. Scaring me to death.
