As far as the number of pets you have - and as far as setting a limit - there are a lot of factors involved.

I am a single person - so - there's only me - I would think that a larger family would have more time (and more hands and arms) to give to more pets.

And - the environment you live in and the temperments of all the pets you have are other factors too.

I know a lot of people would have an unlimited number - just like children -

I still think six is a handful - I know my pets all want to sit on my lap all evening and, of course, they all want to sleep with me. And - when I get home from work - they all want to be petted first and hugged and kissed, etc. So - with me alone - I always have one, two, three, or four wanting to be held and play with me and sleep with me all the time. And - I do enjoy it.
