I prefer a harness over a collar for many reasons. First off I have a very hyper and energetic yorkie who loves to run and chase quirrles while out walking so if I need to pull him in the opposite direction from which he was running, I would rather pull his front legs and back them from the neck. To me it gives me more control over leading him as well, making him to not be able to pull against me as with a collar. But the main reason I chose to invest in a harnes is because my dog kept making this loud noise coming from his throat that hurt me when he did it, so I know if had to hurt him. As he got a little older he would make the noise more and more frequently. I asked the vet about it and he told me that yorkies have a collaspable trachea that can collaspe by tugging or pullin on the collar or when they get overly excited. So I brought the harness to minimize the harsh throat noises he made and it works. But I still keep a collar on him to hang his tags from I just use the harness to walk him with. |
