I feel that these little ones do not deserve to spend their lives in a cage wanting and needing love. I know about the mom's and Dad's in the mills but I can not turn my back on pet store pups, and let them just go rot in a cage.
There are two sides to this topic and I see both points....but I am frustrated that some people think, and pretty much say... ALL pet stores sell puppy mill dogs. Maybe most do ... but the FACT is you have no idea where they get their dogs because you are not going to the place where the pups came from to check it out! More then likely yes it is a puppy mill but you really don't knowfor SURE... Yet you talk like you do! |
I talk like I do? Everyone who knows ANYTHING about pet stores know that majority of them buy from puppymills. Do you honestly think that their buying from that very dedicated breeder you met at a dog show? No. If it's not from a puppymill, it's still from unreputable breeders just doing it for the money, which is still wrong. Don't even say I talk like I know everything when I'm not. I'm simply posting the facts. Like I said, I'm not trying to offend anyone. And that's great that your furbaby is healthy. Of course those little puppy's in the window diserve a loving family. It's not there fault that they were born into a puppymill. There is nothing wrong with saving them. Just remember, buy buying a pet-store puppy you are at risk for putting yourself through more heartache then if you buy from a reputable breeder. I have two friends who recently bought pups this spring from Petland. That is where my boyfriend was planning on buying me my yorkie. As soon as I googled Petland, I made him get back his deposit ASAP. I wasn't going to take any chance of going through any heartache of getting a sick pup. Even though I know two people who bought dogs from them recently and there dogs are as healthy as can be, it's still not worth the chance too me.

Also some people talk as if all dogs from pet shops will get sick and either need tons of money to get them well, or their pet will die at a young age. Yet many puppies live a full life as a loving pet and never get sick or die at young age... A few owners on YT have talked about this from experience. They are talking from FACT! I'm sure some pet store dogs do get sick...But so do dogs from breeders.
|
Getting a sick puppy can happen no matter where you get the pup from, the best breeder on earth, or a puppymill. But chances are greater that the pup will get sick if it's in a petstore. Puppymill pups do not have as much attention devoted to them as a reputable breeders litter. With this, there goes the lack of medical care too.

I know my pup probably came from a puppy mill. I know heMAY get sick and need more care and cost more, or maybe even die...I can't even bare to think any more on that. I know that with any pet there is no predicting how long you will have them ... some run away some get hurt, and some get sick. So since none of us know how long a pet will live FOR SURE, Can't we try to agree that these little fur babies...no matter where they come from are the most wonderful little babies and we are all so lucky to have them.
|
No one is saying that your not as lucky as someone who brought from a reputable breeder, alls thats being said is the risks of buying from a petstore. Of course you can't predict how long your pet will be with you. You can't predict life for anyone. But like I already said, why greater the risk of getting a sick pup and putting yourself through that heartache, and why support these puppymills? Because why your saving that one puppy from the store, their making another, and the bitch and dog of that pup is going through more pain and suffering.

You know, there will not be a point where every one here agrees completely on this matter... I see now that not every one will understand where I am coming from or others that have their babies from pet stores. And it is hurtful when people are mean or judgmental about it. But I look at this differently from some of you (Maybe all of you) I feel I saved Chewy from where he was... He deserved a good home and I fell in love with him.
I have a different view is all. I won't try to change any ones mind. But I think it's ok to have my own opinion on this and hope I'm not making any enemies here...

I think most on here do understand the concept of saving the pups from the petstore, and that's great that you feel that way, were just seeing the other side of it, the side I honestly think YOU don't understand. No ones hating you for buying from a petstore, alls we try to do on here is spread knowledge about these places. You were lucky with Chewy, go onto the site and read the stories, then try to convince these people that it's OK to buy from a petstore.

IF you read back through some of these posts, people who would save a pet store pup are made to feel like they are WRONG. I don't know if I believe there is a right or wrong answer here... I think different people have different views and they should all be respected.
|
By my initial post I wasn't trying to insult anyone. I honestly don't care who you buy from. I can't control anyones actions, and don't expect to control anyones actions. But I do believe in spreading awareness about these sick places. I dont' think anyone else on here is trying to control anyones actions either, but I can't speak for others. But your first post in this thread you automatically made it like it was out too get you, so don't think like that. And if you want us to respect you (I still haven't seen any posts disrespecting you) then you need to show the same for us who care for the dogs in the puppymills and don't want to see them suffer.

At 46 years old I am tired of people trying to tell me what to think, how to act, and who I am. I know how I feel and I am fine with the person I am.
|
Is this a YT problem or a personal problem?

I'm not a bad person if I buy from a pet store. I'm not a better person if I buy from a breeder.

Did I say or imply that you were? Maybe someone else should answer this, because right away you seemed to think I was trying to start something with people who did buy from petstores.

I would buy a pup from where ever, if I saw one I wanted to save...a good breeder is ideal but I would do what ever to save a little one and make a loving home for it. I'm sorry if this offends any one ... it's not meant to. But I will not change my thoughts or feelings. I'm not mad or anything. I just wish there was a freedom and respect to let people be who they are on this issue!

I respect your decisions, I don't look down on anyone who buys from petstores, just try to inform them. You also gotta let us have freedom and respect our thoughts on petstores though too.
