We just bought a lakefront cabin and we have a small kitchen too. We replaced everything and I would say we have, including all new appliances, about $5,000.00 but we did the work ourselves. We tore out all the old cabinets and stripped the room to the bare walls, we bought the unfinished oak cabinets and refinished them ourselves, we tiled the countertops, put in a tin ceiling, new lighting, fresh paint and border...the whole works. It took us about two weeks to get it totally functional again. We packed a cabinet or pantry into every space we had. I'll show the after pictures but you really don't want to see the before pictures...it was so ugly! It may be a one butt kitchen but love it! My best advice would be to shop around, call around and drive around to see what's out there. If you can do some of the work yourself you'll save a bundle. Some areas have day labor places where they can send a retired/out of work electrician or plumber and it will be cheaper than calling one from the phone book. Good luck with your remodel!
