I woulden't say it would cause too much discomfort on their necks, you can even get the softer ones that are suppose to be gentler on the neck. You do have to be careful if your dog is pulling and what you really have to be careful with is that you never leave your dog unattended on the table or give him much room on the table because he can jump off with the noose still around his neck which will strangle him, I have seen it happen many times before. So I guess it depends on your dog and how well you have control over him. I hope this helps.
