I also feed both of my dogs 3 times a day. They both are small at 5 lbs. and 2lbs. 9 oz. neither ever had hypoglycemia. They have sensitive stomachs and if I feed them the same amount of food divided into two meals they barf. So I divide the same amount into 3 meals a day. My vet thinks it's because they bolt their dry food and don't chew it. They both cannot eat wet food so I lately I'm giving them 1 piece of kibble in each plate at a time. It seems to be working for them but my back is killing me.
