Thanks everyone for the advice. I tried the scrambled egg and cottage cheese and she loves it, so hopefully this will keep her calcium up. I also fried up some chicken liver and mashed a small amount in with a rice, chicken and veg baby food, and she lapped it up! I also bought some full cream milk and she loves that too.
Two nights ago I had to call the vet at 1.30am as she was panting violently and running around and jumping up and down on the chairs and beds, she was really upset and apart from her not eating much, I had no idea what was wrong. The vet said it didn't sound too serious and to take her in first thing next morning. He diagnosed that she was stressed and had had a panic attack, we talked through everything and when I mentioned Bobby(The Daddy) was still around and that Lily growled at him every time he went near the playpen, he felt certain that this was the problem. He explained that everything she was doing was by instinct, and her instincts were telling her that some fathers eat their young, and it was stressing her because he was around, keep Bobby away and she would be fine. He prescribed a calcium supplement for her to take daily.
A friend came and has taken Bobby for a couple of weeks, she also has a Yorkie and they are having a great time together, and, yes, the vet was right, the minute Bobby left Lily became relaxed, content and started eating well. I also took her puppies to the vets that morning and he said she was in great condition and that the triplets were brilliant sturdy healthy little puppies!
He also said that if both my dogs are fussy eaters its because I made them that way! If they have eaten a certain food one day but then refused it the next, they cannot be that hungry, and the more different foods I keep buying and trying the more they will let me!
So, once these pups are reared I will be less of a softy!
Thanks again everyone I will keep you posted on their progress. Sue J |
