I am having trouble re-training 3-yr old Sophie, whom we just adopted from a happy home (through an acquaintance) about 8 weeks ago. She was trained when we go her except we were told that if she got mad at us she might have a bowel movement on the carpet. We've not had that problem, but she has apparently (through the transition) lost some of her training since she keeps peeing on the carpet. I can't figure out a pattern or reason to it; sometimes it's right after we come back from a walk when she's already stopped to pee many times. Other times it's just seemingly out of the blue. She doesn't give us any clue that she needs to go out, so I've been getting her outside about every 2-4 hours.
She does fine in her crate at night. She eats twice a day and has water available all the time. My husband has been very good since this is "my dog" and I work all day. He walks her about every 4 hours or takes her for long walks on the golf course. She's so smart and incredibly lovable, except for this one thing.
We've tried keeping her on a leash 100% of the time and that works, but I don't know how to begin to wean her off that. HELP!
