I trained mine to pads.

I confined them to the kitchen during the dfay and put them in crate at night.

In the kitchen, I put down pads where ever they wanted to potty. For a while I had about 5 pads down. Once they were using the pads exclusivly, I started to move the pads closer together, just one pad at a time. If they went back to a spot where a pad had been, I set their bed or a toy box over the spot. My kitchen was quite an obstacle course for a while LOL. But eventually I got all the pads moved to one spot, where I wanted them to go.

I also put the pad (when I got down to just one) in a shallow, under the bed, storage container to keep it neater.
