Thank you all for responding. My daughter knows sign langauge pretty well... she taught herself some and then met a deaf friend... We took a college class last winter She was only a JR. in high school but she was allowed to take the class at night. I took it with her because I realized how hard it is to comunicate when you are with a deaf friend. I went to dinner with Aubrey and her friend and tried to talk to her but it was very hard. I now realize how cut off from others the deaf are and so we took a class together. Aubrey was the youngest (17) in the class and also the very best in the class... She now also is taking her second class with it and is doing very well.
But she wants to do it for life...She doesn't want to go to far away from home to college the first year so we are looking around MA first...
We go shopping and we don't speak to each other only sign... We have fun. She has meet deaf poeple and they are thrilled to talk with her! And her friend will sometimes sleep over and I can talk to her a little... I struggle but the two girls are so funny... their hands are flying around and they are laughing and having a great time... it is heart warming.
