I did read that it is not hereditary. Sometimes wording makes it sound this way. It does say that if an animal gets this and has a hard time getting rid of it that it should not be bred. It says that breeding a dog while it has this will make it much worse. I'm no professional, that's for sure...I just started reading about it myself. The site I went to had info. then a nice Q/A section below that was very helpful in understanding it.
