I have a very small breeding program. I show my dogs in the Canadian Kennel Club shows for the Championships. I occasionally breed a litter when I am looking for the next show dog to show, planning ahead. Alas not all are show dogs so are nice quality pets that I may end up with available to good pet homes on approval.
My dogs are all my pets first, running around my yard, my family room, curled up at my feet, played with pampered and not at all what you are describing that you think a reputable show breeder would be doing with their dogs. I have many friends that think the same way I do, their dogs are first their pets.
Not all are alike in how they keep their dogs but then there are many homes and owners with pets that aren't very good homes either. That's my job before I place a puppy for pet, to be sure I have determined this is a good home.
If you are talking about people that just buy to breed that is a different kettle of fish entirely. I don't agree with that either.
