I know it can be very costly. I have a friend going through the same thing right now. The best thing you can do is continue to educate yourself. Which you seem to be doing. If it comes back OK, then at least you have the knowledge to help someone else.
My understanding is that Dr. Karen Tobais is the leading vet in the nation on Liver Shunt. You might give your vet her site. Some will appreciate the info, some may take offense.
