I always recommend the old Singer treddle machines for beginners. You have total control with them. You will pay an antique price sometimes. If you're interested in one, just watch the auctions in your area or catch one on ebay. Otherwise, there are lots of nice, new machines available today. You probably wouldn't want one that does lots of "fancy" stitches, but who knows?
