I am so sorry for your loss. What a terrible tragedy.
I agree that something sounds very wrong here. If the tests in his heart come back confirming that it was underdeveloped, you probably have cause within your breeding contract (assuming you have one) that would allow for a replacement or $ as that would be a life-threatening genetic defect within the first year. If, however, the heart tests come back okay - then I do not think it unfair to request the vet/grooming facility cover your loss. There was obviously some kind of reaction to the sedation for whatever reason.
I would also request copies of EVERYTHING, from anything you signed when you dropped your baby off for grooming to all the records of what was done before, during and after the grooming.
I am just shaking my head as I'm typing this. I can't imagine losing my baby, but to lose a baby in this manner just doesn't make sense. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I hope that you are able to get another baby to help you through your grief.
