I do accept a non-refundable deposit on my pups to hold them for placement. If I choose not to deliver the pup for any reason the deposit is fully refunded. If the buyer chooses to change their mind, I have the choice of refunding or not. If the circumstances for the change are reasonable or unavoidable on the part of the buyer, I would refund it then also, but it is at my discretion.
