I agree, the banking system totally sucks. Have you called your bank and talked to them and asked them to waive some of the chages. Usually if you haven't overdrawn your account within the past 6 months, they will waive some of the fees. Maybe not all but some is better than nothing.

The problem with the current system is that, percentage wise, the poorer you are the the greater the fees. You are charged the same fee for bouncing a $20 check as you would be if you bounced a $2000 check.

Then once the first fee has been charged more checks will bounce and the merchants in turn will charge a fee and it just escalates out of control.

The greatest thing the banks ever did was to initiate the overdraft protection. I love it. I no longer have to worry about overdrafts, however the bank will still charge ME a $7 fee if someone elses check check is returned to me. Now that is totally not fair.
