I am also concerned. Abbey will be 6 months old Oct. 13. She currently weighs right at 3 pounds. My concern is not only her age and weight, but I have read that in order to lessen the risk of cancer, the spaying must be done before the first heat. I have also read to expect the first heat anytime after 5-6 months no matter what the weight. A friend of mine had a 4 pound puppy that had her first heat at 6 1/2 months. She had been scheduled for her spay the following week. That turned out to be too late. So what is best for our little girls?
