If she isn't at any risk of getting pregnant I can't imagine there is much harm in waiting another few months to see if she adds on any weight. Also, as mentioned above, you will have a better idea of if she needs any mouth work done.

I know my vet was very honest with me and said he finds operating on small dogs very nerve racking just because of the risks involved.

My dog is male, but I've personally decided to wait until he's a year old (he's a 4lb dog) so I can be sure his teeth are settled and he is pretty much full sized (he's currently at 8 months) to ensure he is physically at his best before having an operation.
