I think if we want to rid the world of bad breeders and brokers and cheap puppymills we have to be willing to compensate the good breeders who are spending their hard earned money breeding these fur babies and taking the best possible care of them and their parents. The cheaper ones are usually the puppymill ones unless you go to a pet store where they are expensive AND they probably came from a puppymill.
I saw a puppy in person last night that the "show" breeder was asking $10,000 for. She's here in southern California and she sells to movie stars and she will get $10,000 for this healthy teeny tiny baby she has and I see nothing wrong with that. This little one was the cutest baby I had ever seen! It didn't even look real and it probably won't get to 2 lbs as an adult but it was as healthy as could be! She was the first show breeder I had ever met. I felt like her puppies were fairly priced because she had some that were cheaper because they weren't as cute or they were going to be bigger and the demand is for smaller.
The prices are going up. This breed is in demand and we have to recognize that part of the reason is that we are refusing to buy for the puppymills where they do everything cheaper. Good breeders spend money and pay for the best vet care for their precious yorkies and we have to be willing to pay the price for that kind of care.
