My vet said to do it before the first heat to reduce the risk of mammary gland cancer. She said usually that would be no later than 5 months, but because Gracie is so little, she is suggesting 6-7 months. I would talk to your vet. Much depends on the size of your baby. The bigger she is, the safer it will be to spay her. I'm planning on getting Gracie spayed at about 6 months. She is now 15 weeks and already 3 lbs., so I am confident that she will be of a good weight when the time comes.
