Maybe she didn't give him a puppy cut. She may have just trimmed his shaggy ends. She did his head nicely - trimmed the bangs and his little beard and gave it all a nice shape. I would go with your groomer's opinion. I really didn't get into a conversation about it with her. I'm just curious as to whether or not she's telling me the truth about whether or not this is the way his fur is, or if it will really thicken as he gets older.
There's a LOT of money to be made on small dogs in NYC and I find that people in the business are very careful about what they tell the dog owners for fear of losing their business. It's a difficult, highly competitive business, and the customer is always right. They're very good groomers, and they're really kind to the animals. No cages, no blower ovens, etc., and a really fair price for grooming.
By the way, yours are both adorable, whatever cuts they have. I just got a disposable digital camera and will post Max's picture as soon as I get the disc.
