When I am gone for work, my 3 Yorkies are blocked off to the back part of my home where the bedrooms are located, they do not have access to the living room or kitchen. I do have a doggy door they can come and go out side in the back yard when they want. My backyard is secure, I do a fence check often and the gate has a pad lock on it. I have never had a problem with them having access to the backyard and sometimes when I come home from work, they will be outside laying on the patio enjoying the nice wheather on days we have it. I think they like being able to go out.
