it just takes time I was a little disappointed when my puppy didn't care whether I was in the room or not when I first brought her home.
Just like you don't expect people, adopted children, etc, to be attached to you right away, you shouldn't expect that in a dog.
What reassured me was when I read the AKC handbook for puppies that they sent out when I registered my dog. It said that usually around 5 or 6 months the dog really bonds to you and looks to you for security. And whatdayaknow? Around 5 months, my dog will not let me out of her sight. Everywhere I am, she comes and sits right in front of me, looking quite regal and proper. I like to think she's protecting me from any possible intruders, but really I think she's just afraid I'm going to leave without her.
It just takes time, every dog is different. |
