I am really from the old school - I guess.
Go over and meet the dog and if you like it -- take it home.
I do think it's worthwhile to learn whether or not it's up to date on its shots - so you'll know where you stand there.
A lot of us get new little puppies that have problems and issues and we love them to pieces. A lot of people get rescues with real problems and love them. So - just go for it.
Remember - "Old dogs CAN learn new tricks."
