I feed mine dry dog food bc it helps keep the tartar down. We feed Purina One. I've done tons comparisons (you can find all the label info on line) and this dog food seemed as good as any.

Ears on a Yorkie are suppose to stand up; however, some don't. If you are just planning on using the dog as a pet and not breeding or showing it doesn't matter if they are up or down. If you are planning on breeding or showing eventually I would get one with up ears.

A harness is suppose to be better than a collar (the main reason, I think, is that you won't put preasure on there wind pipes, which can be a problem for some Yorkies). My dogs have too long of hair to even try to get a harness arranged in so mine go naked. When we do go some where I put a collar with ID tags on it, but my dogs are really good about not pulling on the leash so I don't worry about putting to much preasure on their wind pipes.

The size of crate that you get is depending on the Yorkie you get and what you are using the crate for. I'm home all day with mine so the only time they are in a crate is when we are traveling so I don't have a very big one. But if you plan on leaving your puppy in it all day you will want a bigger one. Also Yorkies come in a wide varity of sizes. We have a 2.5 lb Yorkie and a 4.5lb one that don't take up a lot of room, but I've seen Yorkies advertised over 9 lb. which is twice the size of mine so they would need twice the room.

My dogs go with me to most places; however, if you take yours to the mall in a purse make sure that it doesn't over heat and try to stay away from the food court out of respect for the other people there.

Yorkie essentials. 1. Lots of love 2. shampoo and conditioner 3. great vet 4. good comb 5. ouch less latex bands and bows 6. crate 7. doggy bed (even if you think it will sleep with you, it will want some place that is just his) 8. food 9. bowls 10. piddle pads (if you plan on taking your dog with you to college it will need to be trained how to go on pads bc it will be inside all day while your at class) 11.
