I think you may have missed the point. You don't lock children up, and I do not lock my yorkie up. But you don't give in to kids to encourage their whining and carrying on in the future, either. I am always dumbfounded when I watch parents let their kid cry in the store for 10 minutes and say no, only to eventually hand over what the kid is crying for. The kid learns that I only have to cry so long, and she will eventually give in. I am a dissertation away from my doctorate in clinical psych, so I hope I understand how reinforcement works.
