I cannot understand why people get and then keep animals that they won't take care of.
OK, so they get them because a friend's, brother's, fiance's dog had puppies and they were giving them away, and who can resist a puppy, but once you figure out that you are no longer intersted in it then why keep it penned up or chained up and never care for it.
Give it away, drop it off at a shelter, tell them you found it, turn it loose so someone else can find it, but don't let it starve to death.
I really believe the way to decrease the number of unwanted or free puppies, is to initiate free spay and neuter clinics.
The people that get these dogs for free, cannot afford to feed then, let alone get them spayed or neutered.
If the cities, counties, states, etc. would support spay and neuter clinics it would definitely decrease the number of puppies and kittens given away to people who cannot afford them, that ultimately end up in the shelters. |
