OK, so I've always thought it would be best to start training new dogs right from the start. so, I decided today to start teaching her "stay."
I brought her out back, and (because I'm worried that she could get under the fence) I hooked on her leash, a run, and another leash. that way she could walk around and I wouldn't have to hold onto something, but could stop her if she tried to run.
anyway, I started short just having her sit in one spot. eventually, I got to the point where I could walk to the other side of the yard and back without her moving. and then I got to the point where I could sit her in the middle of the yard, and walk the perimeter of the yard without her moving. Another small thing that she can do, is I have her walk next to me, then say "stay" and keep walking, and she'll stop.
I know it seems like a lot for one day, but she's learning SO fast, and she really only has to remember 1 command to do all of it, because she comes naturally lol. the best part is, the only reward she wants is a belly rub! the other dogs won't do squat unless they're getting treats! haha.
She's such a little angel. I love her to death!
