Luig is trained to go outside and that was the only way he was trained. My vet encouraged us to do one or the other so he didn't get confused. We adopted Luigi Jan 2nd, and I thought that I would have him go on the pads til it got warm out then start doing the outside thing! Well then my vet told me that it would be too hard to retrain him. So we only went outside in the freezing cold and in the snow. There were times we were outside a LONG time waiting for him to go, but I would not bring him in til he either peepeed or poopooed or both!!! And it seemed to work.After about a month, I knew when he had to go--like clockwork!!!! Now he is such a good boy, he goes 8 hrs at a time and holds it til we go outside!!!! And he actually loved the snow and loved to play in it!!! And he loves the rain too!!! Its starting to get hotter and more humid here and he actually is NOT liking that at all. He must get too hot!!!!!!!!!!!
