I agree, LP can be caused by trauma. That is exactly what happened with my maltese.

But the trauma is something that is hard to miss. He would definitely not be displaying the "classic" signs of LP. Running along, hops when it slips and then is fine a minute later.

My maltese's trauma was actually minimal which lead us all to believe that the integrity of the knee was not good at all. This caused him severe pain - I cannot imagine the amount of pain that would occur from trauma to a stable joint.
