Gina, I am glad you are preparing yourself before you breed, that really is the best thing you can do, but you still need to read a little more.
You can not let them on their own, too many times the female will try to break away and can seriously harm the male, in fact if she damages him too bad he may have to be put down. I don't want to discourage people from breeding, I get a lot of flack from the show people I associat with because I feel that we do need some good, caring pet breeders, but they really need to be informed and educated before they put 2 dogs together and expect to get nice healthy puppies with no problems.
