I hate to sound like I am discourging you from breeding, but have you done some research and reading prior to breeding your yorkies? How about tests for Livershunt, and legg perthes? Are you prepared to risk possibly losing your bitch if she has complications, or losing the litter if she developes an infection? If they are both young inexperienced, they may need help. Do you know what day of her cycle she is on? Is she flagging yet? Did you have her checked out by your vet prior to deciding to breed her to make sure she is in good shape? There are so many risks to breeding toy dogs, and then to keep the puppies alive. Toy puppies have to be kept warm, and you have to make sure mom does not lay on them or step on them. If you end up having a C-Section, you will have to watch very close and probably tube feed the pups every 2 hours until the mother realizes that they are her puppies and bonds with them. How old are your dogs, your bitch should at least be over a year old, actually closer to 2 before being bred. Right now I have a 4 week old pup that was born premature by a week and even my vet did not think shw would make it. We were in the vet's office at 11:30 on a Sunday night (thank goodness, my vet will come in for these things) to have a C-section because my bitch started in labor early. Pup would not breath on her own, and did not have any hair on her lower legs and the muzzle of her face. Vet worked on pup for almost 10 minutes using oxygen before she would breath on her own, and then I spent the first week tube feeding every couple hours around the clock, and it was almost 2 days before the bitch even accepted the pup. Had to use heating pad to keep the puppy warm all the time. This is the same bitch that had a perfectly normal birth of 3 puppies when she had her last litter. These are all things you have to be prepared for if you are going to breed. I read several books on breeding before I ever even thought of trying to breed my yorkies. They sure are a lot different than breeding large dogs. Puppies that are born at 2 - 5 ounces are way more fragile than puppies born over a pound.
