Putting a sheet over the gate is a good idea. However, I think you have bigger problems to worry about right now. It sounds like your new baby has seperation anxiety, which can be a serious problem for you and your dog. I would try to deal with this problem right away before things get worse. You will need a trainer to help you with this. First thing you have to do is figure out if this is in fact seperation anxiety or just a destructive behavior. . Either way, a trainer can help you figure out which one it is and how to help you and your baby. You said she has done it before at the breeder's house, so obviously this won't go away by its self and may even get worse, which is why it is important to correct this problem right away with a trainer's help.
