please do not put anything on her paws that she can lick! they do have a tendency to chew on their little feet, I would put booties on or the idea with the blanket was a realy safer suggestion, or crate her.. and I am not into to crating only using for traveling, but in your case this might be a safer option.
sounds like she is having separation anxiety.
